Where to place the microphone
Where to place ceiling microphones so Room OS has the best starting point to tune from.
Overview
Pleneo hub and Room OS tune and manage ceiling microphones automatically. Good placement gives that tuning the best starting point. How you place them depends on whether the room uses a single microphone or multiple microphones.
A few rules apply to every room:
Place over the conversation, not the room. Mount above where people actually sit and speak, even if that's off-centre. If the table is off-centre, the microphone should be too
Keep away from noise sources — HVAC vents, projectors, loud lighting, doorways
Give it a clear path to the room — avoid beams, soffits, and deep ceiling recesses that block or reflect sound
If a microphone starts in the wrong place, tuning can only partly compensate.
Single microphone
A single ceiling microphone suits smaller and medium rooms with one clear seating zone, such as a meeting room with a single table.
Place the microphone directly above the centre of the seating zone, aligned with the table's long axis. If the table is off-centre in the room, keep the microphone above the table, not the room.

Multiple microphones
In larger rooms, or rooms with more than one seating area, use multiple microphones to cover the whole space. Instead of one central point, aim for even coverage across where people sit.
Divide the room into seating zones and place a microphone above each
Space the microphones evenly so coverage is consistent across the room
Keep each microphone over its seating zone, not the geometric centre of the room

For a layout matched to your specific room, use Pleneo Planner.
In summary
Good ceiling microphone placement comes down to a few rules:
Place microphones over where people sit, not the centre of the room
Keep away from noise and obstructions
Use one microphone for a single seating zone, or several for even coverage in larger rooms
With good placement, Room OS tunes and maintains performance automatically.
